Yoga props should be seen as a potential aid to achieve a posture more easily but they are also an integral part of certain types of yoga. Iyengar yoga, based on alignments, you will need many accessories to achieve the most correct postures and a yoga mat that will help you to be well placed like the Focus yoga mat or the Infinity Tribal yoga mat

The Yoga Block

Thanks to a yoga block you will be able to realize more easily and with more stability certain postures.

  • Choose the material of your yoga block
To have a good stability, the block of yoga in foam will have to be dense and firm. Choose it rather in recycled EVA. The brick in cork is often a little heavier but conceived in a natural product. It also offers a very good stability. The block yoga first price makes perfectly the business for the dancers who want to work their flexibility.
  • How many blocks to buy?
I recommend you to buy at least two blocks, because even if you will only need one for many postures, you will be quickly annoyed if you miss the second one. If you are really not flexible, you can superimpose two bricks on top of each other and this will make the movements much easier. For dancers, no doubt about it, a minimum of two bricks is needed to work on your gaps! Some even work with 4 or 6 bricks.
  • What is the purpose of the block or the yoga brick?
There are many applications, because the brick allows you at the same time to
    - support your posture:
for example, in the pigeon posture, you can slide a block to support the buttocks that are resting on the ground and you can put your hands on two blocks in order to straighten up well and avoid slumping. On the contrary, you can also put your forehead on a block facing you to relax: in the resting postures you will appreciate the support of the block.
    - to reach the ground more easily and work on flexibility:
position a block or as many blocks as necessary to reach the ground in your Hnuman (wide split) posture, for example or even in a cobra
    - keep your balance:
in the triangle pose, the block will help you keep your balance
    - check the alignments :
by wedging a yoga block between the knees for example, you will be able to realize the bridge posture with more correct alignments
    - to wedge the yoga wheel (yoga wheel)

The Yoga Strap

The strap is like an adjustable belt with a metal or plastic buckle. It exists in standard length but also in extra long format to match your yoga mat. It is used to :

  • extend the arms for leg stretching
  • stretch the chest and open the shoulders to improve your posture
  • straighten the back in the pinch pose whether standing or sitting
  • Stretch and improve hip opening

The Yoga Wheel

The yoga wheel allows many interesting exercises and to succeed some difficult postures thanks to a support and a natural progression. Note that the yoga wheels have all the same diameter and the same width. There are different coverings: cork or rubber. Both kinds are equal, it is more a question of aesthetics and affinity for one or the other material.

The benefits of using the yoga wheel are the following:

  • stretching of the spine and rib cage through gentle massage
  • exercises to open the shoulders and achieve the bridge posture in a progressive manner
  • emphasis on gap work and stretching for both yogis and dancers
  • gain on the general balance: you can bring two yoga blocks to hold your wheel during the exercises of the crow or the crane
  • overall strengthening of the body and tightening of the abdominal muscles
  • improvement of self-confidence for inversions:
    - your back will be well wedged, comfortable and supported for the crow and the plow
    - thanks to the yoga wheel, sirsana will not make you afraid any more because it will be enough to wedge it with 2 bricks of yoga to position itself correctly in the tripod and gradually to go up on the head... ultimate posture

The FeetUp® Yoga Chair

This wooden chair allows you to perform all kinds of exercises in group or individual to vary your yoga sessions. It allows you to do almost all the exercises that you would do with a yoga wheel. The big difference is in the possibility to free your hands and therefore to perform balance and inverted postures without fear without clinging to the FeetUp® Trainer. This yoga accessory is therefore also used for other applications such as synchronized dry swimming, as it allows to simulate floating and weightlessness out of the water and therefore to perfect the choreography.
